Guided Adventures on the Green River: Your Ultimate Experience
The Green River is not just a world-renowned destination for anglers—it’s a place where adventurers of all kinds can immerse themselves in the stunning landscapes of Flaming Gorge, Utah. Whether you’re an experienced angler seeking trophy trout or a novice wanting to learn the basics of fly fishing, a guided trip on the Green River promises an unforgettable experience. With expert guides leading the way, you’ll have access to the river’s hidden gems, secret fishing spots, and local knowledge that only seasoned pros can provide.
Introducing Garrett Morse of Western River Flyfisher Guides
Garrett fell in love with fly fishing as soon as he tried it. He later went to Fly Fishing Guide School in Montana with Gallatin River Guides and was the valedictorian of his class (they told his dad not to quit his day job, haha).

He soon landed a job with one of the best guide shops on the Green, Western River Flyfisher Guides, and became one of the youngest guides on the river.
Garrett is very personable and loves to guide those new to fly fishing and experienced anglers alike. Besides being a great angler (we call him the “fish whisperer”), and an amazing teacher, he is a masterful rower. He guides the drift boat into the perfect position to get his clients on the fish, using a variety of advanced rowing strokes. If you get the chance to go down the river with him you’ll see him effortlessly switch from one stroke style to the next to keep the drift boat in perfect position.
“Gurt,” as his friends call him, loves everything outdoors, including fishing, hunting, and hiking. He even lived in a tent for most of his first year guiding. He was an avid lacrosse player in high school, and was sought after by college recruiters, before he found his true passion in life. He is an adventurer at heart, and a great son and brother.

Here’s why a guided trip is the best way to experience the Green River:
- Expert Knowledge: A local guide knows the river inside and out. From choosing the right flies and bait to navigating the currents and identifying the best spots to fish, their expertise will elevate your experience.

- Customized for All Skill Levels: Whether you’re a seasoned fly fisherman or a complete beginner, guides tailor each trip to your skill level. Beginners can expect a patient introduction to fly fishing techniques, while experienced anglers will appreciate the guide’s insider tips and tricks for catching trophy trout.
- Scenic Beauty: The Green River is a gem in itself. Even if fishing isn’t your main goal, the breathtaking scenery, towering canyon walls, and abundant wildlife make every trip a visual feast. Watch for eagles soaring overhead, deer along the banks, and perhaps even a glimpse of the elusive otters or beavers.
Fly Fishing Trips on the Green River
The Green River is world-famous for its fly fishing, particularly its legendary stretches known as Section A, Section B, and Section C. Each section offers its own unique fishing opportunities, from calm, crystal-clear waters teeming with trout to more challenging areas that reward the skilled angler.
- Section A (Flaming Gorge Dam to Little Hole): Known for its clear, shallow waters and prolific trout population, Section A is the most popular stretch of the Green River. Here, you’ll have a chance to catch rainbow, brown, and cutthroat trout, often in impressive sizes. Guides know the specific flies and techniques that work best in this section, helping you land the fish of a lifetime.
- Section B (Little Hole to Browns Park): For anglers looking for a more peaceful, less crowded experience, Section B offers stunning landscapes and deeper pools where larger fish tend to lurk. This stretch is known for its mix of riffles, runs, and pools—perfect for anglers who enjoy a variety of fishing conditions.
- Section C (Browns Park to Swinging Bridge): Section C is the most remote and wild of the three sections. With fewer anglers and even more diverse scenery, this section offers a true backcountry experience. Larger, more elusive fish can be found here, and a guide can show you how to access the river’s best-kept secrets.
